Interior Minister Ziad Baroud told As-Safir newspaper on Saturday that the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections made remarkable progress on the logistical level.
He said he was cautious about the country’s fragile security state; however it did not pose a great concern, even as election day drew nearer. Baroud said, “I have faith that that different political parties are adamant on holding the elections peacefully.”
The interior minister also said his ministry was carrying out its duties and treating all parties equally. Baroud emphasized the importance of appointing the five remaining members to the Constitutional Council, which would deal with the candidates’ electoral complaints, and concluded that without the council, the electoral process would be incomplete.
