Zouheir Ksaibati, office manager for Al-Hayat newspaper in Beirut, said that Syrian authorities banned distribution of the Saudi financed paper. Ksaibati told AFP that the Supervisory Bureau of the Syrian Information Ministry asked the newspaper’s office in Damascus to stop sending copies of the paper to Syria. The bureau did not explain the decision, Ksaibati said, adding that that the newspaper had always been supervised in Syria, and that editions of the paper had been frequently banned from Syria in the past.
