The leader of the Kataeb party, Amin Gemayel, said on Monday that last week’s shooting of a military helicopter constituted an attack against the entire army, and that handing over a suspect to military authorities was not enough to resolve the issue.
Addressing a party meeting, Gemayel said that he rejected the notion of giving any institution or political party parity with the nation’s army. He called for investigations into the incident to be transparent and said that given the recent turbulence, the national dialogue was of the utmost importance and must be held as soon as possible.
