MP Ahmed Fatfat of the Future bloc said that the violence in North Lebanon is damaging the whole country in an interview with the Voice of Lebanon radio station on Friday
He also noted that the Lebanese security forces have not proven strong enough in facing violations. “Security forces must be firm, and this is the only solution,” Fatfat said.
“The blame should not be laid on the security forces, as they have potential. But they are afraid of being seen as taking sides, which might lead to political problems,” he added.
“I don’t think that yesterday’s incidents in North Lebanon will lead to a big explosion, but it depends on the decisions the army makes, and the army has a security and political cover in the North,” Fatfat said.
“Some do not want to the see national unity achieved after the detainees and martyrs were released,” Fatfat said, referring to Wednesday’s prisoner swap between Hezbollah and Israel.
