Incumbent Prime Minister Fouad Siniora addresses Lebanese from Baabda Palace after appointment as head of next cabinet.
May 28, 2008

Siniora: President Michel Sleiman has delegated me to form the first cabinet of this era, after I headed the cabinet of reform and renaissance. I say today, as I said before, that the martyrdom of [former] Premier Rafik Hariri is the reason I stand here, and I promise to fulfill my duties in protecting the state and its institutions and confirming the sovereignty of the law and justice through the International Tribunal.
Siniora: Everyone is invited to review the past and find morals, and I call on all to heal their wounds and overcome the problems and campaigns we have witnessed.
Siniora: I thank the MPs of the Future bloc, the MPs of the martyr Rafik Hariri, and all the MPs of March 14. I also thank the MPs who had a different stance in the consultations. I thank them for their participation in this constitutional operation, and, God willing, we will form the cabinet  of all of Lebanon, as we agreed on in Doha.
Siniora: We all hope to form good relations with Syria, our sister, based on mutual trust … which would allow us to protect Lebanon through joint Arab action and implement international resolutions on returning the Shebaa Farms and Lebanese prisoners to Lebanon.
Siniora: What His Excellency the President launched in his inauguration speech coincides with my principles, and I will work side by side with him in total cooperation.
Siniora: We must seize this opportunity for progress and development so as not to waste the efforts of our sons or the efforts of our Arab brothers and their faith in us, and we must return to joint work to implement the Paris 3 agreement in honest cooperation  with the parliament.
