Future Movement leader MP Saad Hariri in live press conference.
May 8, 2008
MP Hariri: I call on you, Sayyed Hassan (Nasrallah), to open the airport, free the streets of gunmen, to save Lebanon from hell and to save the unity of Muslims.
Hariri: All of Lebanon suffers today with Beirut… as they suffered with our brothers in the South during the Israeli invasion.
Hariri: Israel rejoices at seeing Beirut besieged… at the closure of the airport, seaport and downtown, at the failure of the economy and the government.
Hariri: Where are you taking Lebanon and the Muslims, Sayyed Hassan?
Hariri: The unity of Muslims is our responsibility… and if the unity of Muslims in under danger, then let us put out the fire of sedition, for unrest has been lit.
Hariri: Let us give the army a chance to play its role in protecting citizens and national security.
Hariri: We are not saying we want to stop protecting the resistance. We are taking measures to protect the government, not to attack the resistance, and not for them to accuse us of being an American government.
Hariri: The riots in Beirut are based on a misunderstanding.
Hariri: He (Nasrallah) says he does not want Sunni-Shia strife… if this strife begins, there is no way out.
Hariri: We propose the following solution: first of all, placing the matter in the hands of the army and allowing the government to exercise its authority across Lebanon. Secondly, the withdrawal of armed factions from the streets. Thirdly, the election of Army Commander General Michel Sleiman. Fourthly, the return to the dialogue table.
Hariri: If Sayyed Nasrallah takes this path, he will prove that he really wants to solve the crisis.
Hariri: Israel is an enemy.
