Sheikh Al-Amin: The Shia sect rejects being outside the state
May 8, 2008

Tyre and Mount Amel Shia Mufti Sheikh Ali Al-Amin said that the incidents occurring in Beirut and across Lebanon do not serve the interests of Muslims.

“What is happening is an aggression against the freedom and property of people and is exposing Lebanon to danger,” Amin said after his meeting with Sunni Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani.

“The Shia sect rejects being outside the state. It also rejects any faction violating the role of the state under any pretext,” he added.

He also noted that the opposition’s call to the government to revoke its decision is not a legitimate demand.

“When the state decides on something, it must implement it,” he said.

Amin said that the prolongation of these incidents is the beginning of a coup against the state. “People have the right to express their objection to a decision, but it is not acceptable to obstruct the life of others and to aggress their freedoms and violate the role of the state.”

“We do not understand the Higher Islamic Shia Council’s objection of the reappointment of one person,” he added.
