Qabbani announces Qolayat airport can open in 24 hours
May 7, 2008

Head of the Committee for Public Works and Transport MP Mohammed Qabbani said the events in Beirut constituted a riot rather than a strike, noting that the violence had spread to the Beirut International Airport.

“As president of the Committee for Public Works and Transport, I call for the… government to announce the Rene Mouawad Qolayat airport as an international airport immediately, and inform international organizations straight away,” he added.

Qabbani said the Qolayat airport was ready to assume full function within 24 hours and only needed security forces and a tax official. “The Rafik Hariri Airport will remain a source of pride as Lebanon’s prime airport, but having two international airports serves a greater general benefit.”

That's a cop out... not an alternative... "Beirut International Airport" as it is known worldwide again is State property and not that of an unlawful terror group... Therefore it should be cleared of all of "Ali Baba nasrallah and his forty thieves"... Next thing you know, the Cyprus ferries will be brought back to life...

At least it helps people wanting to travel out of and into Lebanon, and gives them the chance to do so without passing by a territory dominated by hezbollah. We need to reactivate Kleyat, Wejj-el-hajar and also Riyak airports and compensate for this loss. We should not cave in, this is it, the start of Lebanon vs hezbollah/Iran.

Why should this be the case, Harriri Inter. airport should & must be opened no matter what action is taken...whats the point of giving in to their terror ?..reaction of others,in some cases, may be fabricated by them as a cover to ignite a bloody clashes...its not just the airport besieged,,its the peoples life as a whole is under threat..time to sort this once & for all..let the bloody American put more force on Syria, even the use of force to get them to stop this terror..

And how does that help the hundreds of people effectively held hostage at Beirut's airport?
