Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati said that Lebanese participation in the upcoming Arab Summit is the sole means of expressing the country’s various points of view. The level of representation, he noted, is at the cabinet’s discretion.
After meeting with Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir, Mikati said that as a founding member of the Arab League, Lebanon must attend the summit to voice its opinions when the Lebanese dossier is opened.
The former premier underlined the importance of participation in the Arab Summit, set to be held on March 29-30 in Damascus, in enhancing Lebanese-Syrian relations, as the summit “greatly affects the situation in Lebanon.”
“Will boycotting the summit complicate or facilitate matters? If the host country complicates matters, and I boycott the summit, Damascus will only complicate matters further,” Mikati added.
