In an interview with the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Friday, Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader MP Walid Jumblatt expressed hope that the tripartite summit meeting held at the Presidential Palace in Baabda would provide “an Arab cover for Lebanon’s stability and safeguard its internal unity.”
The meeting grouped Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and President Michel Sleiman.
The Saudi and Syrian leaders urged Lebanese parties during their visit to the country on Friday to avoid resorting to violence in the face of mounting political tension in the country, according to a statement issued by Sleiman’s press office earlier in the day.
“The positive results of the Saudi-Syrian cooperation are not confined to Lebanon only, but they cover all the Arab world,” Jumblatt said.
The great steps taken by King Abdullah and Assad would bring about a major change at the Arab level, he added.
