As-Safir newspaper quoted on Friday Tourism Minister Fadi Abboud as saying that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL) would not lead to any security implications.
This comes after Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said last week the STL will name Hezbollah members in its pending indictment into the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, which sparked fears of a new sectarian conflict.
Abboud said that reactions to Nasrallah’s speech were normal, adding that the Lebanese would not fight no matter how tense the circumstances were.
This comes after Nasrallah’s words increased tension in Lebanon and sparked a war of words between March 8 and 14 alliance figures.
Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel Aziz and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to Lebanon shows their concern over the country’s stability, Abboud added.
They are expected to arrive in Beirut at 1 p.m. on Friday where a summit will be held at the Baabda Palace with President Michel Sleiman.
