In an interview with LBCI television on Tuesday, Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Hassan Fadlallah said that Hezbollah has no reservations about Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s upcoming visit to the US.
Fadlallah’s remarks come days after some pro-Syrian Lebanese politicians cast doubts about Hariri’s US trip.
The White House announced last week that US President Barack Obama will meet with Hariri on May 24. This will be the prime minister’s first official visit to Washington.
Hariri's visit comes amid regional tension over Israeli charges that Syria is supplying Hezbollah with sophisticated missiles while Washington seeks to isolate Iran over its nuclear program.
“We consider Hariri’s visit to Washington as part of the foreign trips of presidents [and prime ministers],” Fadlallah said. “The prime minister represents the national unity government’s general policy. We have not voiced reservations about any visits by the president or the prime minister abroad.”
“Lebanese-Syrian coordination serves Lebanon’s interest, especially at this stage in which we are being subjected to [Israeli] threats,” Fadlallah added, referring to Hariri’s trip to Syria on Tuesday.
