Development and Liberation bloc MP Ali Khreiss told Akhbar al-Yawm news agency on Tuesday that Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s efforts to reach an agreement between Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Syria “is something normal.”
He said that Nasrallah’s mediating role between the PSP leader and the Syrian leadership “is in its place,” noting the latter’s sour relations since 2005.
However, Jumblatt admitted during his interview with Al-Jazeera television on Saturday that he had “in a moment of anger and loss” made inappropriate comments about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
“Jumblatt is now adopting national positions,” said Khreiss. He added that the PSP leader’s recent statements, which, he said, pertain to the Palestinian cause and Lebanese-Syrian relations, are patriotic.
He also said that Lebanon’s invitation letter – which Libya mailed to the Lebanese Ambassador to Syria Michel Khoury – to the Arab League Summit was very disrespectful.
However, the embassy mailed back the letter, because it does not have the authority to accept or reject the invitation.
Khreiss also called for ending diplomatic ties between Lebanon and Libya and for boycotting the summit in Libya.
