Fadlallah says Jumblatt, Syria reached political common ground
March 16, 2010

Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Hassan Fadlallah told LBCI television on Tuesday that “[Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid] Jumblatt and Syria have reached political common ground.”

The newly-founded understanding between Jumblatt and the  Syrian leadership was based on four pillars, said Fadlallah. He added that these pillars helped overcome the severed relationship between Syria and Jumblatt.

“The first [pillar] is that Lebanon should not be used as an accessory to conspire against Syria; the second is having special Lebanese-Syrian relations  in accordance with the Taif Accord;  the third is supporting the Resistance; and the fourth is the unity among the Lebanese .”

He also commented on Jumblatt’s relations with Damascus, saying that Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has been a mediator between Jumblatt and the Syrian leadership for months now.

Fadlallah added that the PSP leader asked Nasrallah to mediate between him and the Syrian leadership and, according to An-Nahar newspaper, the PSP leader will head to Syria before March 25.

This comes after Saturday’s Al-Jazeera interview during which he had previously “in a moment of anger and loss” made inappropriate comments about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
