In an exclusive interview with NOW Lebanon on Monday, Change and Reform bloc MP Simon Abi Ramia said that he encourages normalizing the relations between Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Syria.
Hezbollah issued a statement earlier in the day that Assad is ready to meet Jumblatt soon. The PSP leader told Al-Jazeera on Saturday that he had previously made some inappropriate comments about Assad “in a moment of anger and loss.” In 2007, Jumblatt called Assad "the dictator of Damascus... a savage... an Israeli product, a liar... and a criminal.”
“We respect Jumblatt’s choices and position. We do not interfere in [Jumblatt and Syria’s] relations because are not aware of their details,” Abi Ramia said.
He also criticized March 14 alliance’s meeting at the Bristol Hotel on Sunday, adding that their statements are decaying.
Prime Minister Saad Hariri and Kataeb Party leader Amin Gemayel’s absences from the meeting were remarkable, Abi Ramia also said.
Hariri did not attend Sunday’s March 14 alliance meeting, which fell on the fifth anniversary of the group’s formation, because of his official trip to Germany. Kataeb Party Vice President Chaker Aoun attended the meeting in place of party leader Amin Gemayel.
