During her meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Saad Hariri, German Chancellor Angela Merkel voiced the importance of maintaining peace in Lebanon, Future News television reported.
According to the report, Merkel said Israel’s plans to extend settlements obstructs the Middle East peace process. Israel announced last Tuesday during an official visit to the country by US Vice President Joe Biden that 1,600 new settlement housing units would be built in predominantly Arab East Jerusalem.
Merkel said that she called Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu to express her displeasure over his government’s move, Future News added.
