Hariri to meet with Merkel, German defense and foreign ministers
March 14, 2010

According to a statement issued Sunday by his press office, Prime Minister Saad Hariri arrived in Berlin for a three-day state visit, where he will meet with high-ranking German officials—including Chancellor Angela Merkel, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and Defense Minister Karl Theodor zu Guttenberg—to discuss regional developments and bilateral relations.

Hariri will also meet with members of the Lebanese community in Germany as well as Arab ambassadors posted to the country.

The PM is accompanied by his chief of staff, Nader Hariri, and his two advisors, former Finance Minister Mohammad Chatah and Hani Hammoud.

Hariri faced a very warm welcome - from the Lebanese community as well as by the German government. The reception for the Lebanese community was organized by the Lebanese Embassy and some 400 from all over Germany attended the meeting in the ballroom of the first hotel on the spot, at the Adlon next to the Brandenburg gate. Hopefully face to the German politicians he was able to stress the importance of UNIFIL and the continuing engagement of Germany. Unfortunately the German media did not much covered the meeting and the visit. Perhaps Lebanon needs another media policy in Germany? Not at least to promote its goods i.e. food, tourism, culture, and hospitality.
