Syrian newspaper Al-Watan reported on Sunday that US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman and Middle East chief Daniel Shapiro will head to Damascus for an official visit.

According to the daily, Feltman agreed to make the trip in order to continue dialogue with Syria.

The newspaper added that Feltman will likely invite Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad to visit Washington in turn.
