Baroud: Lebanon’s crime rate decreased
March 12, 2010

Interior Minister Ziad Baroud told NBN television on Friday that the crime rate in Lebanon has decreased. The Internal Security Forces (ISF) are making significant effort to uncover and bring to justice criminals, he added.

Baroud also addressed the security agreement reportedly signed between former Prime Minister Fouad Siniora’s cabinet and the US Embassy in Lebanon, saying the issue is being dealt with in the Parliamentary Media and Telecommunications Commission.

“The head of the commission, [Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Hassan Fadlallah], is not jumping to any conclusion before knowing the details of the matter,” he added.

Fadlallah announced on Wednesday the formation of a commission to investigate the issue, saying that the US agreement is political and imposes conditions on the ISF.

Baroud added that the cabinet also appointed ISF Director General Ashraf Rifi to handle the issue and determine its details.
