NLP expresses concern over aims of armed parties to obstruct national dialogue
March 12, 2010

The National Liberal Party (NLP) issued a statement on Friday that it is alarmed by the provocative statements made by armed parties to obstruct the national dialogue, a reference to Hezbollah.

The national dialogue’s discussions on Lebanon’s defense strategy should acknowledge the right of the Lebanese state to seize all weapons and control the war and peace decisions, the statement said.

The party also said that it would follow on the parliament’s deliberations over the draft municipal electoral law, which was approved last week by the cabinet.

The party also spoke about the upcoming Sunday March 14 alliance commemoration, saying the movement achieved its goals of: realizing national unity, forming the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, establishing diplomatic relations with Syria, and reaching a decision to demarcate the Lebanese-Syrian borders.

March 14 General Secretariat Coordinator Fares Soueid said that the March 14 alliance would re-launch a unified political vision during its annual conference.
