Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Nawwaf al-Moussawi told New TV on Friday that getting to the bottom of the 2007 agreement signed between the Lebanese government and the US administration allegedly on security “is a national battle, [however,] it does not target Prime Minister Saad Hariri.”
Several March 8 coalition figures, including head of the Media and Telecommunications Commission Hassan Fadlallah and Speaker Nabih Berri, criticized former PM Fouad Siniora’s cabinet for reportedly signing the agreement in 2007 with the US embassy when the parliament was shut down from December 2006 until May 2008.
“The Media and Telecommunications Commission is in charge of investigating the case and will see it through,” Moussawi said.
He called for annulling all similar agreements, strengthening the role of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) and preventing US attempts to infiltrate it.
Moussawi also urged ISF Director General Major General Achraf Rifi “to look at the big picture” in response to Rifi’s comments – that he came under attack due to the agreement – so as to strengthen Lebanon’s sovereignty against US violations.
