President Michel Sleiman said on Thursday that Israel’s decision to build new settlements in annexed East Jerusalem indicates that the Jewish State does not want to engage in the Middle East peace process based on the 1991 Madrid Conference and the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative.
This comes after Israel's Interior Ministry on Tuesday approved the construction of 1,600 new housing units in Ramat Shlomo.
According to Sleiman, Israel’s policy proves that it is not ready to take part in a new round of negotiations “to lay the foundations for a comprehensive, just and permanent peace in the Middle East that safeguards Palestinian rights.”
