In an interview with Al-Akhbar newspaper published on Thursday, former Prime Minister Omar Karami slammed President Michel Sleiman for his recurrent visits abroad as well as his decision to select certain representatives for the national dialogue committee, while arbitrarily dismissing others.
“[Also], the Syrian leadership informed me that it was not aware of President Sleiman’s intention to resume the national dialogue,” he added.
According to Karami, “[Prime Minister] Saad Hariri was a businessman before venturing into politics, and he faced difficulties while doing so.”
However, he said that his relationship with Hariri is very good on the personal level, but that the two disagree on political issues.
Karami touched on his split from the March 8 coalition, saying, “The Sunni opposition made significant sacrifices to uphold [its] principles.”
He also said that he is concerned that Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea is receiving financial support from unknown sources with the intention of forcibly dubbing him a leader of all Christians in Lebanon.
