February 9, 2010

Avalanches in a strategic pass through treacherous mountains in northern Afghanistan killed 24 people, with up to 40 people missing and feared dead, said Interior Minister Mohammad Hanif Atmar on Tuesday.

"The bodies of 24 of our compatriots have been found so far," Atmar told reporters. "There is fear of another 40 who may be buried under the snow."
