Israeli newspaper Haaretz said on Sunday that Hezbollah has reportedly launched at least six failed attacks against Israeli targets outside Tel Aviv. The attacks come in retaliation to senior Hezbollah leader Imad Mugniyah’s assassination, for which the party considers Israel responsible, in Damascus in February 2008.
The paper reported that the Turkish media said Hezbollah’s military operations “were extremely ambitious and organized well in advance,” adding that such operations were allegedly planned in cooperation with Syrian and Iranian intelligence.
“It is suspected that they planned to attack a series of targets connected to Israel, and possibly also the Turkish Jewish community –all at the same time,” Haaretz said.
