Labor Minister Boutros Harb told LBCI television on Sunday that “Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s visit to Damascus is a step toward resolving a psychological complex.”
“We were informed of the visit, and it was proposed in the cabinet by Hariri, however, it was not discussed,” Harb said, adding that some parties hoped the meeting between Bashar al-Assad and Hariri would have taken place under different circumstances.
Harb also said Hariri went to Syria for personal reasons, to create an “atmosphere of friendship,” adding, “The visit does not clash with the establishment of two independent states.”
According to the minister, accusations that Syria assassinated former PM Rafik Hariri are political, and resuming normal Lebanese-Syrian relations is in Lebanon and the world’s best interests.
