French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Bernard Valero said on Thursday that France encourages Israel’s withdrawal from the Ghajar village.

His statement came after reports that the Israeli government informed UNIFIL on Thursday of a withdrawal from the northern part of Ghajar within the coming hours, thereafter leaving the village under UN administration.

Valero said UNIFIL General Commander Claudio Graziano orchestrated the withdrawal, stressing the Israeli occupation contradicts UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
