A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Al-Liwaa newspaper that the judge dismissed by Judiciary Minister Ibrahim Najjar is identified as Tanios Ghantous.
Ghantous worked as a penal judge in Beirut and was referred to the Higher Disciplinary Committee in 2004 for several reasons, including a bribery for $200,000.
After being uncovered, the judge tried clearing his name by claiming he had been subject to an attempted assassination in Hotel Dieu’s parking in December 2008. Investigations revealed Ghantous had fabricated the story to escape the lawsuit issued against him by the Judicial Inspection Committee, the source explained.
